Rage - 2 Truckers battle ends in fatal stabbing

Fatal stabbing of trucker during a Chicago-area road-rage incident underscores a growing problem that worries motorists, legislators, police

Quote from the article:
For about 11 miles, the two truckers dueled recklessly down the highway. Starting on the Kennedy Expressway heading out of Chicago and continuing onto the Edens Expressway, they swerved in front of each other and rode each other's bumpers. Finally, one of them barked into his CB: "Let's do it!"

With those heated words, the drivers pulled over and started a roadside fistfight that ended when David Seddon, of Racine, Wis., allegedly plunged a buck knife into Alan Lauritzen, of Sparta, Wis., three times, police said. Seddon has been charged with first-degree murder.

The Jan. 15 slaying has sparked discussion among police and truckers about road-rage incidents among all drivers in what some say has become a more volatile environment for those navigating the congested corridors of major cities such as Chicago, one of the nation's busiest trucking hubs.

In the metro area, state police get reports of road-rage encounters at least weekly and put out daily calls for troopers to watch for reckless behavior, said Capt. Dave Nanninga, commander of the Chicago District. Although the department doesn't keep statistics on such reports, officers seem to be fielding more alerts, he said.
