Renault may use KERS at Monza
Technical director Bob Bell has revealed Renault are considering bringing back KERS for September’s Italian Grand Prix. The French team dropped the technology from the R29 earlier in the year, but after McLaren scored the first victory for a KERS car at July’s Hungarian race, the advantage of running the system at some circuits has become increasingly evident.
Although they are not planning to run it at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, Renault believe having KERS on their cars in Italy could be highly beneficial. Monza is the fastest circuit on the calendar and is renowned for its lengthy straights and combination of chicanes and high-speed corners.
“We're always adding new developments and for the next couple of races we'll be using a low downforce package on the car,” explained Bell. “As for KERS, we don't plan to use it in Spa, but we're considering it for Monza as we believe it will provide a real advantage there.”
The Italian Grand Prix will take place from September 11-13.
