Robbie-Knievel-to-Jump-16-Buses-on-XR-750
Motorcycle daredevil Robbie Knievel will attempt to jump 16 double decker buses in London on a Harley-Davidson XR-750 on May 22 at Wembley Stadium. The son of the legendary Evel Knievel will attempt a jump similar to the one that almost ended his father’s career. Evel broke his pelvis during his attempt to jump over 13 buses at Wembley back in 1975 after his rear wheel clipped the last bus, sending Evel rolling down the ramp with his motorcycle crashing on top of him. After the wreck, the daredevil announced that he was retiring from the sport, but was jumping again five months later.
Robbie Knievel has made more than 350 jumps primarily using a modified motocross bike, the Honda CR500. In London, Robbie will use a Harley-Davidson XR-750, similar to the bike used by his father. The XR-750 presents new challenges because of its heavier weight and handling. With a successful jump, Robbie can silence the critics who dismiss his achievements because of using the Honda and he can set a new world record for bus jumping on an XR-750. The current record is 15 buses held by stuntman Bubba Blackwell.
