Ryan Newman sets up ambitious week | Motor Sports News | Sports News | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News
Give Ryan Newman credit for not taking the easy way to NASCAR's Chase for the Cup.
While Newman is fairly comfortable in ninth place with three races remaining before the field is set, he's putting an awful lot on the line this weekend.
Instead of focusing solely on how he can improve his Chase standing, the driver of the No. 39 U.S. Army/Haas Automation Chevrolet is setting himself up for a busy weekend of racing at Bristol.
Newman is running in four races and doing so with the blessing of team owner Tony Stewart.
"I talked to Tony and asked him what he thought about the four-race schedule," Newman said. "He asked me if anyone has ever done this, and I said 'No.' He then said, 'You got to do it.' "
