Suspect drug cash falls from jocks

NEARLY $8000 in cash suspected of being drug proceeds allegedly fell out of a pair of jocks being worn by a Warwick bikie gang supporter on Thursday.
Andrew Clarke-Davis, 18, appeared in the magistrates court yesterday charged in relation to the cash and was released on bail with a string of conditions to await his next court appearance on February 10.
A Warwick Police Criminal investigation Branch (CIB) spokesman said police had intercepted Clarke-Davis – whose previous address was a Bandidos bikie gang meeting place on Grafton Street – in a vehicle outside a suspected drug-supplying residence on Albion Street about 6pm on Thursday.

“The vehicle was searched and the suspect was taken back to the Warwick police station, whereupon exiting the police vehicle a wad of cash wrapped in black insulation tape fell out of his underwear,” the CIB spokesman said.

“The amount of cash totalled $7800 and is suspected as having been the proceeds of the sale of illicit drugs.”

Clarke-Davis was escorted from the watchhouse into the courtroom just after 2pm yesterday, dressed in a long-sleeved black shirt, jeans and thongs.

He sat in the dock, with several supporters in the public gallery.

He was formally charged with possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act 1986.

He was not required to enter a plea or make any statement to the court, with his defence counsel telling Magistrate Andrew Cridland he sought leave to have Clarke-Davis’ charge adjourned until February 10 to enable him to seek further legal advice.

Clarke-Davis was released on bail, with the police prosecutor asking for a lengthy list of conditions.

These included that Clarke-Davis be required to reside at a specified address at Warwick and not to leave that residence without being in the company of two people named in his bail conditions.

The only other occasions on which he is allowed to leave the residence are when he attends drug and psychological counselling sessions, meetings with his legal representative and court.

Police also required Clarke-Davis be banned from associating with Warwick Bandidos identity Darrell Vincent Cross and a number of Bandidos supporters.

He is also banned from being within 200 metres of three Grafton Street residences known to be linked to the Bandidos and a residence on Wood Street.

Darrell Cross is still awaiting a further court appearance in relation to his alleged attempt to run over a police officer on Ipswich Road in Brisbane on April 23 last year.
