Villeneuve working hard to get back in F1
Jacques Villeneuve believes a lot of people put two and two together and got five when they claimed he was on the verge of joining Lotus F1. Former World Champion Villeneuve, who last drove in Formula One in 2006, was strongly linked with a move to the Formula One newcomers after he visited the team's production car factory in England
However, the reports proved to be inaccurate as the team signed Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli as their drivers for the 2010 season.
The 28-year-old says a lot of people jumped to the wrong conclusions.
"A lot of people got carried away with the Lotus thing," the told Auto123.com. "I wanted to pay a visit to my good buddy Gino (Rosato) who's now working for Lotus, but that's the production car company. So I went to England and visited the production car factory.
"It has nothing to do with the new Formula 1 team whatsoever. But many people got all excited, but I never discussed with the Lotus F1 team bosses."
The Canadian, though, says he hasn't given up hope of returning to F1, but admits at the moment things are not looking too good.
"Well, there's no much to say for the moment," he added.
"But I am still working extremely hard to get back in F1 this season. So hard you would not believe it. Jock Clear (his former race engineer at Williams and BAR) told me that I would love driving the new F1 cars that got rid of much electronic gizmos. This really motivates me to return in F1. But for the moment there's nothing to announce".
