Warren Transmission Adds 100 New Jobs to Support Increased Demand for Hot-Selling Vehicles

In order to meet growing customer demand for some of GM’s hot-selling vehicles, Warren Transmission is adding over 100 new jobs to its second shift 6 speed operations.

Warren supplies transmissions for Chevrolet Equinox, Traverse, Malibu and Impala, Buick LaCrosse, Enclave and Lucerne and GMC Acadia and Terrain. This line-up includes some of the hottest selling vehicles in the United States. Through the first three months of the year, U.S. sales for Equinox have risen 130 percent, compared to the same period last year. LaCrosse sales are up 197 percent and Terrain sales are up 245 percent, compared to the vehicle it replaced, the Pontiac Torrent.

Don Sharp, UAW Local 909 chairman, recognized the efforts of the workforce, “These new jobs are great news for GM and Warren Transmission. Our employees take pride in producing high quality products that satisfy our customers. We are proud to be contributors to GM’s growth in the marketplace.”

“Increased market demand for our great vehicles is driving expansion of our production operations. Additional jobs will allow us to grow the business, while meeting increasing customer demand for our hot products,” said Dave Tatman, plant manager.

The Warren plant will fill its manpower requirements in accordance with the provisions of the UAW-GM National Agreement. The new jobs will be filled with UAW members currently on layoff, drawn from the UAW-GM local area hire. Warren Transmission produces 4 speed and 6 speed Hydra-Matic transmissions for nine GM models. The plant employs approximately 660 hourly and 120 salaried employees with hourly workers represented by UAW Local 909.
