Women are worse at parking than men
It's an argument that has raged since we first got behind the wheel of a car, but there's now some scientific proof that women are less swift and accurate at parking than men. A German study, undertaken by Dr Claudia Wolf, a PhD student at Ruhr University's department of Biopsychology, tested 65 volunteers in parking tests in an Audi A6 saloon.
The results show that women took 20 seconds on average longer to park, while men were found to be around 5% more competent at parallel parking. Men also had an advantage when driving head on or reversing into a space. The results were checked by measuring how central the cars were positioned in the bay after the volunteers had parked. The final result underlined that women's extra caution did not provide a tidier final result.
The study underlines evidence elsewhere that men are greater risk takers and women tend to be more cautious behind the wheel. Not perhaps news to many, but it might end a few arguments - or start just as many...
