Chrysler Responds to Claims By Tesla Motors - Short Memory or Short-Circuit?
Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 05/22/2013 09:35 PM in Automotive
Chrysler has responded to Tesla on their blog:
"On May 22, 2013, Tesla, a California-based EV manufacturer, said it has repaid a DoE loan adding: “Tesla will be the only American car company to have fully repaid the government.”
The information is unmistakably incorrect. It’s pretty well-known that almost exactly two years ago – May 24, 2011 – Chrysler Group LLC repaid (in full and with interest) U.S. and Canadian government loans more than six years ahead of schedule.
Question: short memory or short-circuit?"

We don't have any further information or a contact but if you have 170 million you don't need our help.

It’s no surprise to any automotive enthusiast that Fisker Karma has had a rough ride with the hurricane, fires and Tesla just getting all the love. Autoblog noted that you can pick up a used 2012 with 10k miles or less for as little as $65,000. When I say “as little” I think you get the point as these cars went for over $00,000. They made 2,500 of these and Ebay has roughly 24 for sale.

Chrysler recalls 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokees, Commanders over rollaway risk
Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 05/13/2013 08:22 AM in Automotive
Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, through March 9, 2010; and 2006-2010 Jeep Commander vehicles manufactured January 31, 2005, through March 10, 2010. A transfer case electrical failure may result in an unintentional shifting of the transfer case into the neutral position.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the final drive controller which governs the transfer case, with new software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in June 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N23.

Lawmakers vote to ban ethanol in Maine
Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 05/10/2013 06:59 PM in Automotive
he Maine House on Wednesday took a decisive stance against blending ethanol into gasoline, giving initial approval to a bill that would ban the corn-based additive from motor fuel if two other New England states pass similar laws.
In addition, the House unanimously endorsed a resolution urging the federal government not to require gasoline containing 15 percent ethanol, a blend known as E15. The Senate unanimously endorsed that resolution Tuesday. Most gasoline available today is a blend with 10 percent ethanol.
The House voted 109-32 in favor of LD 115, a bill sponsored by Rep. Jeffrey Timberlake, R-Turner, that would ban the sale of ethanol-containing gasoline in the state. The prohibition would only take effect if two other New England states passed similar laws.

Chevy rolls out cowboy-themed luxury Silverado pickup
Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 05/06/2013 08:12 AM in Automotive
General Motors is saddling up to become a player in the market for cowboy-themed high-end pick up trucks.
Sunday night at an event in (where else?) Texas, its Chevrolet division rolled out new high-end version of its redesigned 2014 Silverado pickup called the High Country. The new luxury truck takes dead aim at the Ford F-150 King Ranch, Chrysler's Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn and a new ranch-inspired Toyota Tundra 1792 Edition.
To set itself apart from city slickers, the big crew-cab truck pours on the chrome -- from a unique grille to side mouldings, door handles, mirrors and its own 20-inch wheels. The interior is done in saddle-brown leather and features touches meant to conjure images of a life of ropin' and brandin'.

State gasoline taxes average 23.5 cents per gallon but vary widely
Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 05/05/2013 08:11 AM in Automotive
The average state gasoline tax throughout the nation is 23.5 cents per gallon (cpg), but the range of state taxes is wide. Alaska and Georgia charge 8 cpg, and California charges 38.2 cpg.
The state taxes are in addition to a federal tax of 18.4 cpg. EIA collects information on state gasoline taxes twice a year, and the latest data are for January 1, 2013.
A variety of taxes and fees are levied on motor fuels by all levels of government in the United States. While these duties often include comparatively small fees that provide revenue for environmental protection and other dedicated funds, the largest portion of the taxes paid by the average consumer is used to build transportation infrastructure and maintain roads, effectively making them road user fees.
