These boaters were paid to get drunk so officers can train on how to spot drunken drivers. How did I not get selected?

It takes faith, hope, hammers and nails to build a 500-foot ship on the scruffy outskirts of Hialeah. Also, permits.

Boat wrap?
Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 03/23/2013 07:30 AM in Nautical
Interesting idea here - wrapping a boat. Expensive and I cannot imagine how well it will hold up against splashing waves and salt water. Of course, it adds a layer of protection to a fiberglass body already designed to be durable so I would like to see how this looks in about a year.

Watch the Shotover Jet Boat rip through dramatic and narrow canyons!

Wow, check out the Shotover Jet Boat Ride. Unlike a roller coaster or most amusement park rides, this one has no rails – it’s a jet boat in a narrow canyon and you better hope your driver had a good night’s sleep! Never before have I wanted to sit in an airplane for 24 hours (U.S to Australia).

Who wouldn’t love to watch the world’s biggest ship being built? Unless you have 3 months to kill, it would be impossible. Most of us, however, can find just over a minute so you’re in luck!
Here’s a time-lapse of the construction of Maersk Line's very first Triple-E vessel at the DSME shipyard in Okpo, Korea.

Carnival Cruise Ship Hit With First Lawsuit Over 'Floating Hell' (Video)
Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 02/16/2013 11:26 AM in Nautical, Video, WTF
Here we go. As if Carnival Cruise lines intentionally broke the ship. People need to get their big boy pants on. In some countries people live like that every day. I will be curious to see what a week of living uncomfortably is worth to these people. After all, if you would kiss the ground where people spit and walk then what’s a week of discomfort? Looks like about half of the passengers could do without eating for a week.
If you lost a 30 foot boat during the Japan tsunami, Portland Police found it
Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 02/06/2013 09:08 AM in Nautical

Two Oregon Department of Fish and Wildife biologists, Steve Rumrill and Justin Ainsworth, inspected a boat that washed up Gleneden Beach earlier today. The boat is oriented hull up, and it is embedded in the sand with most of the hull exposed. The vessel is 30 feet long and the hull is an unusual design and appears to be a specialty design for some type of commercial fishing or aquaculture activity. The fiberglass hull is predominantly white with patches of blue bottom paint. The side of the vessel contains a 4"X12" "YAMAHA" sticker, and the bow section contains some red painted characters.

We cover a lot of silly news here and every so often we like to toss out a happy story too. Deputy Robert Howard from the Tampa, Florida area responded to Jack Peeks, 73, home in reference to a stolen boat. The suspect appeared to just untie the boat and took off in the water.
Deputy Howard learned that Mr. Peek has terminal cancer and could not stop thinking about this.

The oil tanker Overseas Reymar struck “a glancing blow” to a tower of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge after unloading crude at a Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSA) refinery the day before. The collision occurred at 11:20 a.m. local time, the U.S. Coast Guard said in an e-mailed statement. No oil was released, a notice to the California Emergency Management Agency shows.
We saw photos but went looking for video so you could get a better look.

Steve Jobs' Yacht Is Being Held In Amsterdam Over A Bill Dispute
Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 12/21/2012 09:56 AM in Nautical
We mentioned a while back about Steve Jobs' yacht Venus being unveiled but now it appears that money is owed and the boat is not going anywhere.
Jobs designed the yacht with French designer Philippe Starck who says that the Jobs family owes him $3.96 million (€3 million). He says the family owes him six percent of the cost of the yacht, which he says is worth $198 million (€150 million). The Jobs family say the yacht is worth $139 million (€105 million).
Until the dispute is resolved, the yacht will sit in Amsterdam's port.

Video: Jet skis at 50 mph tend to suck on land

One of the reasons I bought a new jet ski from Sea Doo (as opposed to used) is the braking system. Sometimes you need to slow down, especially in a narrow river and the braking can cut down your stopping by 50%. Where I do most of my riding the river can be narrow, like in this video.
Video: We all live in a turquoise submarine - Iran's navy showcases its bright new warship
Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 11/29/2012 04:59 PM in Nautical
The Beatles famously sung about a psychedelic fantasy Yellow Submarine in the 1960s.
With the potential to be slightly more dangerous, but just as colourful, the Iranian Navy has been showcasing the latest addition to its fleet - a brilliant bright turquoise blue submarine.
Designers of the domestically-produced warship must have thought that the bizarre shade would make the craft blend in with the deep waters of the high seas.
