Electric Merc SLS - more details

Merc has started on road tests of the electric SLS supercar and is still on target for a 2013 launch AMG boss Volker Mornhinweg has told Autocar.

Mornhinweg also revealed that AMG engineers are still confident that the electric SLS will meet all of it's performance objectives: a 0-60mph time of 4.0 seconds with a battery range of around 110 miles.

"We are on target to meet all of our objectives but we obviously have lots of time to fine tune," he said.

China has overtaken the U.S. as the world's biggest market for automobiles, the first time any other country has bought more vehicles than the nation that produced Henry Ford, the Cadillac and the minivan.

Former Volvo directors oppose Chinese sale

Even as other potential buyers circle Saab, Beijing Automotive Industry Holding has struck a tentative agreement for the right to produce versions of the beleaguered Swedish manufacturer’s older models.

If completed, people close to the negotiations said Sunday, the deal would allow Beijing Automotive to produce the Saab 9-3 and 9-5 in China, but not prevent a separate buyout of the entire company, a unit of General Motors.

Ohio Appeals Court: No Speeding Tickets for Fast Sounding Cars

The Ohio Court of Appeals on Monday ruled that a motorist cannot be convicted of speeding based solely on how fast his car may have sounded. On October 18, 2007, Patrolman Ken Roth ticketed Daniel Freitag in the village of West Salem as Freitag was driving with his wife Jane on US Route 42. Roth claimed his radar unit clocked Freitag at 42 MPH in a 35 zone. Roth also claimed he could hear Freitag's 2006 Lincoln Navigator speeding.

Fastlane: Suzuki goes upmarket, and Audi goes driverless

Suzuki's first premium sedan will debut here by the second half of next year. The Kizashi, available as a 2.4-litre with continuously variable transmission, is expected to be priced around $100,000.

German press say Schumacher agrees Mercedes deal

With the exception of an actual signature on the dotted line, Michael Schumacher has reportedly agreed to return to F1 with Mercedes in 2010.

The news magazine Focus as well as the major German daily Bild revealed on Saturday that the 40-year-old, who retired as a Ferrari race driver in 2006, will be Nico Rosberg's teammate.

An environmentally friendly concept boat that a group of fishing buddies dreamed up five years ago will make its public debut tomorrow night during the 38th annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights.

If plans pan out, the holiday show will be the first of many appearances for a line of solar-electric boats fashioned by Electro-Mariner Corp. of Sorrento Valley. The vessels will cost about 20 percent more than their conventional counterparts, but they won’t emit all the air pollutants of combustion engines.

What, you didn't know Suzuki made cars?

After two years of selling more than 100,000 cars in the US during 2006 and 2007 ? mostly rebadged Korean-built Daewoos ? Suzuki dropped to 85,000 in 2008. It'll be lucky if it finishes 2009 with half of that.
