Seems that we still have police officers who don’t understand that they are public servants and subject to being filmed. If it’s not a camera phone, then you can assume a building camera is close by. Seriously, just do your job and you won’t have an issue? In this case, the guy can’t claim to be a rookie but instead it was the Assistant Chief from Wallingford, Connecticut. As is usually the case, once they found out that it was going public, they deleted the videos and accidentally took pictures of their feet while doing so. Keystone cops anyone?

I have a lot of respect for the job these guys do and the tough situations they have to face every day, but to spend time arresting someone doing something legal is just plain stupid, arrogant and unacceptable. Know the laws you have to enforce and leave the innocent people be. I am expecting a lawsuit here and rightfully so.

This isn’t the first incident in this town and we have posted the YouTube vide where you can hear an officer say “You don’t take pictures of us,” before grabbing the camera. Hit the jump for more on this story and the video.

According to a police report, his arrest was ordered by Assistant Chief Ariel Melendez, who had told him not to film police breaking up a fight. Read the report here. Luna said police took his iPhone from him and erased the video he had made. He was charged with interfering with police and spent the night in jail. Assistant Chief Melendez did not respond to requests for comment this week. Chief Frank Limon declined to comment on the propriety of Melendez’s order to arrest Luna. He reiterated his previous statements that it is not illegal to film police.
