A Cambridge hedge-fund honcho won’t be putting on the ritz anytime soon after a judge ordered him away from the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Towers on Boston Common yesterday for allegedly hurling his BMW keys into a valet’s face.

Richard L. Grubman Jr., 47, a hedge-fund manager for Highfields Capital Management of the Back Bay, was slapped with the stay-away order by Judge Annette Forde after he pleaded not guilty to felony assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. Grubman pitched his alleged curbside fit Tuesday at about 7 p.m. when he tried to head into the Ritz’s Blu restaurant and was instead asked by a residential valet to remove his silver 2007 BMW X5 SUV from residential-only parking, according to witnesses and police. Grubman is accused of then yelling “obscenities” at a valet before throwing his keys in his face “striking him in the upper lip area,” according to a police report.
