U.S. 1 has now reopened in Nassau County after a fatal crash that killed six people. Lt. Bill Leeper with Florida Highway Patrol confirms the deaths of two adult females and four children ranging in ages from 3 or 4 years old to 12 years old. Police have arrested and charged a man from Nassau County with six counts of vehicular homicide.

FHP said the three car crash happened on U.S. 1 near Kelly's Lane between Hilliard and Callahan. According to FHP, around 5 p.m. a speeding Chevy Camaro traveling in the right southbound lane on U.S. 1 tried to pass a red four-door Nissan traveling in the left southbound lane. The two cars collided, causing the Nissan to overturn into the median. That car had six people inside, two female adults, a 12-year-old, twin boys between the ages of 3 and 4, and an unknown person. The Nissan was pushed into the median, creating dust, FHP said. A white pick-up truck traveling in the northbound lane tried to avoid the dust but instead hit the Nissan. FHP said because the pick-up truck has large, oversized tires, it drove over the Nissan, crushing it.
