In an apparent hate crime, a 16-year-old white teenager wielding a .22 caliber rifle chased a 16-year-old black teenager into the station Friday afternoon, shot him in the arm and then shot himself in the chin as he backed out into the street after being confronted by a police officer, according to police and witnesses

Booan said village officials will examine safety protocols at the village office, which is co-located with the police department. “Our police officer (James Cox) conducted himself extremely well and professionally,” Booan said.
